DURANT — The Durant softball team beat RVC South foe Mid-Prairie last Thursday, May 30 in conference play. The Wildcats improved to
4-0 in the RVC with the wins. Durant won game one, shut- ting out Mid-Prairie 7-0 and followed that up with an 8-3 second game win.
The 7-0 game one win was the rst shutout this season for Durant and at the time was the second highest scoring game they have played this year. Kamryn Meyer, coming o recording career strikeout No. 500 in the Wildcats season-opening game with Davenport West, was nearly unhittable. Meyer gave up only four hits over seven innings and struck out 10 batters. At the plate, Meyer helped her own cause, with a hit and 2 RBI’s.
Durant scored runs in five of the rst six innings of the game. Durant scored single runs in each of the rst three innings to take a 3-0 lead after the third. Durant scored two runs in the fourth to extend their lead to 5-0. Durant closed the scoring in the game with two runs to set the score at its nal, 7-0.
Durant had 11 hits in the game with four players having multi-hit games. Ruby Kappeler was 3-for-3 with two doubles, an RBI, and two runs. Hannah Happ, Jada Rock, and Paige Werthmann all had two hits. Mallory Warner had an RBI and Allie Poston had a double in the game.
Abbi Patterson took the loss after working 2 1/3 innings in releif of starter Myah Lugar. Four di erent Golden Hawks had hits in the game.
In game two, Durant trailed 2-1 after the top of the fourth inning. Then Durant scored four runs in their half of the fourth inning to take a 5-2 lead. Durant would add three runs combined over the next two innings to take an 8-2 lead.
Jenna Lawson was the winning pitcher with a complete game over seven innings. Lawson struck out six and walked one batter. She gave up ve hits and three runs.
Durant had nine hits in the game with Kira Schult leading Durant with a 3-for-4 night with an RBI and run scored. Hannah Happ, Kamryn Meyer each had two hits. Happ had 2 RBI’s and Ruby Kappeler had a hit and 2 RBI’s.
Cassidy Rourke took the loss after working six innings. She gave up eight runs, ve of which were earned, struck out three and walked six batters. Rourke led Mid-Prairie at the plate, going 2-for-3 with a triple. Kylee Kos added a two-run home run.
