Townsend Finishes 17th At State Meet
MARSHALLTOWN — Wil- ton senior Jared Townsend nished his season at the boy’s state golf meet on May 23-24 at American Legion Memorial Golf Course in Marshalltown. There, Townsend placed 17th overall. Townsend was a member of the Beavers state-qualifying team two years ago.

Weather created a problem at the state meet. In the last part of May, most of the state was drilled with heavy rains. Marshalltown was no di er- ent. The course used for the state meet was not spared and the two-day event, was cut to a one-day event with the second day of the meet being cancelled on the morning of May 24. Class 2A was not the only meet cancelled as all classes of the state meet were sidelined due to the weather.

Townsend shot a day one score of 79.

He was only three strokes out of the top-6 places before the meet was cut short. Townsend shot a score of 41 on the first nine holes, six over par and shot a score of 38 on the second nine holes, four over par. He shot par on four of the rst nine holes and six times in the second nine holes.

Kolby Shackelford from Panorama won the state meet with a score of 69. He shot a score of 34 on the rst nine and a 35 on the second nine holes. River Valley Conference foe West Branch was in the running for the team title but had to settle for second place with a team score of 308 due to the cancellation. Des Moines Christian won the Class 2A state title with a team score of 304, just ahead of the Bears.
