DURANT — Durant got a masterpiece pitching effort by freshman Ethan Gast and scored their highest run total in a game to date, in a 10-0 win at home last Friday over non-conference foe Springville. Gast, making his first start of the season, pitched five innings for the complete-game shutout. He needed 73 pitches and gave up no hits. He struck out seven batters and walked two. Gast also had a big night at the plate, going 2-for-2 with a double and 3 RBI’s.
Durant scored the games first runs with two in the first for a 2-0 lead after one inning of play. Durant took command of the game in the bottom of the second inning, putting up four runs to take a 6-0 lead. That score stood until the fourth when Durant scored three more runs to take a 9-0 lead. Durant ended the game by the 10-run mercy rule, scoring a single run in the fifth.
For the second straight game, Durant had 11 hits with four players having multi-hit games. Drew DeLong, Brendan Paper, and Tevin Miller joined Gast with two hits. Ben Orr and Paper each had 2 RBI’s while Miller drove in one run. Orr, Gast, and Miller each had doubled in the game. Durant stole five bases in the game with Nate Dierickx collecting three and Jake Willkomm 2. Willkomm had two of the walks issued by Springville.
Tough Road Trip To Bellevue For Wildcats In 10-8 Loss
BELLEVUE — Durant had a hard time recovering from giving up six runs to the Comets in the bottom of the first inning in a 10-8 loss at Bellevue on June 4. Durant trailed 7-1 after two innings and 10-2 after five. The Wildcats battled through and pushed three runs across the plate in each of the sixth and seventh innings to get close in the end.
Ben Orr took the loss after working two innings and giving up 7 runs on 10 hits and walking three. Keegan Head pitched four innings in relief and struck out five and gave up three runs on three hits.
Durant had 11 hits and four players with multi-hit games. Ben Orr was 3-for-4 with two doubles, 2 RBI’s and two runs to lead Durant. Drew DeLong, Nate Dierickx and Brendan Paper each had two hits. Dierickx had 2 RBI’s while Paper and Tevin Miller each had one RBI. Durant had 6 stolen bases led by Jake Willkomm and Dierickx with two each.
Wildcats Split With Comets In Home RVC Doubleheader
DURANT — The Durant Wildcats won back-to-back games for the first time this season and split with RVC South foe West Liberty on Monday, June 3. There, the Wildcats won game one 2-0 and fell 6-5 in game two.
Brendan Paper pitched a four-hit shutout in the first game. Paper struck out 12 Comet batters and walked two. Ben Orr and Drake Shelangoski each had hits for Durant. Keagan Head had an RBI.
In game two, Durant scored twice in the bottom of the seventh to get within one-run but couldn’t get better than the 6-5 final score. Nate Dierickx took the loss after working five innings and striking out five batters. He gave up three hits and walked five. Drew DeLong pitched two innings in relief. He gave up two hits and struck out two batters.
Durant had 13 hits in the game. Three players accounted for nine of those hits led by Ben Orr who was 4-for-4 with two doubles and an RBI. Brendan Paper was 3-for-4 with an RBI and Tevin Miller was 2-for-4 with an RBI.
