2017 Boy's Track Preview

Tigers Look To Make Noise In Tough RVC
TIPTON — The Tipton boy’s track and field team will look to make some noise this year in another strong track year for the conference.  The Tigers return many familiar faces and also get an influx of new talent.
Last season, Tipton placed 11th at the conference meet.  The Tigers had three events qualify for the state meet a year ago.  Two relays, the shuttle hurdle and 4X200, and Wesley Zell in the 110-meter high hurdles were the events to go to state.
The Tigers Shuttle Hurdle Relay team of Parker Jensen, Griffin Ormsby Brendan Claussen placed 14th and Wesley Zell along with the 4X200-meter relay team of Koby Johnston, Alek Comstock, Dalton Clark and Jordan Challis placed 18th.  Zell placed 12th in the 110-meter high hurdle race.
Class breakdown for Tipton is 10 seniors, 6 juniors, 5 sophomores and 12 freshmen.
Out this season for the Tigers are Andrew Olseen, Tiger Emrich, Brenden Leeper, Austin Lenz, Mitch McMurrin, Nolan Ohrt, Frank Bierman, Jaxson Murphy, Trent Pelzer, Gabe Peach, Gavin Belitz, Tommy Brown, Ben Ellis, Quinten Mesick, Noah Jedlicka, Trysten Schwinker, Trent Hilbert, Hunter Tenley, Andrew Stewart, Paden Zell, Bryce Deerberg, Davis Butler, Blaise Thumma, Dalton Clark, Conor Cromer, Dillon McCullough, Sam Bierman, Wesley Zell, Kolton Crock, Logan Schroeder, Isak Skeie and Parker Jensen.
The Tigers have home meets on April 6 with the annual Tiger Relays and April 18 when they host the second of two co-ed meets.  The Tigers will host one of eight class 2A state qualifying meets this year on May 11.
The Tigers have had successes early in the season in the indoor season and with the outdoor season just in its beginning.  Several Tipton events will challenge for top spots at this year’s RIver Valley Conference meet in Bellevue on Thursday, May 4.

Knights Look To Build On 2016 and Move Forward in 2017
CLARENCE — 2016 saw the Knights host a home meet for the first time in many years as the program had a new all-weather track surface to show off.  The Knights took a slip in the RVC standings at the conference meet, down to 10th from 4th in 2015.  Some of those on last year’s roster are back and some new faces look to make an impact this spring.
North Cedar placed 10th at the River Valley Conference meet last season.  There, now senior Bryce Bemer had a pair of top-5 finishes in the long jump and the 200-meter dash.  North Cedar had two relays place in the top-5 with their 4X100-meter relay placing third and their 4X200-meter relay placing 4th.  On those teams were Greg Hansen, Torrey Wilhau, Bemer, Ian Malaby and Brendan Sander.  Hansen and Bemer are back.  North Cedar took three events go to state, two by Bemer.  Bemer ran in the 100-meter and 200-meter dash events and Hansen ran in the 200-meter dash.
Athletes out for track at North Cedar are: Logan Thimmes, Evan Patterson, Miles McCullough, Jon Scheer, Tyler Maschmann, Keon McCullough, Tyler Thurston, Tanner Hayzlett, Ryan Spahr, Dylan Welsch, Austyn Sander, Ethan Sahr, Tyler Alexander, Colin Sander, Carter Johnson, Cory Cox, Greg Hansen, Chance Cinkovich, Byron Boleyn, Cade Wendt, Seamus Raney, Aaron Woodward, Bryce Bemer, Treat Spahr, Jacob Jensen, Owen Meyer, Dragon Cinkovich.Zac Kauffman, Robert Kelly-Anderson, Devon Willis, Brady Lehrman and Grant Tenley.  
North Cedar will host a home track meet on Tuesday, April 25.  The Knights will run at the River Valley Conference meet in Bellevue on Thursday, May 4.  Before that, North Cedar will be competing at 11 outdoor meets.  North Cedar will run at Tipton twice, and close by in Durant, DeWitt and Solon among others.

Durant Looks To Continually Improve This Season
DURANT — The Durant boy’s track and field team will look to continue to improve under coach Phil Roehlk.  Roehlk begins his second season as the head Durant boy’s track coach after taking over the program last year.
Out for track for Durant this spring are Nate Prunchak, Gage Finke, Cameron Hoon, Cole Stineman, Zach Hein, Tanner Hoon, Drew Henderson, Jeremy Carnes, Tony Friederichs, Jonah Werth, Bruce Dillabough, Caleb Burmeister, Carter Voelkers, Anthony Mundt, Dawson Frett, Cale Frett and Zach Badtram.
Durant placed 13th at the River Valley Conference meet last year.  Joey Tobin’s 5th place finish in the 3,200-meter run was the top Durant finish at the meet.  Tobin qualified for the state meet in the same event, where he placed 21st.
The Wildcats host a hotm co-ed meet on April 4 and then compete in or very close to Cedar County with meets at Tipton, Wilton, West Branch and West Liberty.  The Wildcats will compete in nine outdoor meets before the River Valley Conference meet in Bellevue on May 4.  The state qualifying meet is Thursday, May 11.

Beavers Hope To Inch Up In RVC Race
WILTON — The Wilton Beavers have 26 out for track this season.  The Beavers placed 12th at the River Valley Conference meet last year and had two events get to state.  Evan Reifert placed third in the 400-meter dash and in the 200-meter dash.  Javin Drake placed 6th in the discus and the Beavers top relay finish came from a 9th place finish by their 4X100-meter relay team of Cody Navarro, Drake, Chase Miller and Reifert.
Reifert would qualify for both events at state where he placed he placed 11th in the 400-meter dash and 12th in the 200-meter dash.  Reifert returns to try to get back to the state meet as do several others off of last year’s team.
Out for track and field for the Beavers this season are: Peyton Hagens, Nathaniel Fagner, Charles Martin, Jacob Creamer, Jacob Reifert, Brady Shook, Isaac Hunter, Ashton Stoelk, Jared Townsend, Garrett Bohnsack, Coy Baker, Scott Martin, Dalton Snider, Kaelyb Gerlt, Buddy Darting, Daryn Clark, Colby Brown, Ethan Fagner, Cole Rabedeaux, Brian Stillman, Nathaniel DeVore, Evan Reifert, Dylan Ormsby, Drake Hayes, Ronen Santiago and Chase Miller.

Wilton will host a co-ed meet on Monday, April 10.  The Beavers run at Durant, Tipton, Wapello, West Branch, Mid-Prairie, West Liberty, North Cedar, Clear Creek-Amana, and Columbus Junction in the regular season.
