Tigers Welcome Engels As New Coach

TIPTON — The Tipton girl’s track program will have a new coach in 2017 with Jill Engels.  Engels takes the helm as the Tigers coach of a team on the rise with several new faces and a smattering of returners from last year.
Out this season are Morgan Wendel, Blake Ehler, Bailie Butterbrodt, Tiffany Schott, Amanda Smith, Emily Hermsen, Karlee Kamberling, Sommer Daniel, Kamryn Chapman, Haley Schmuecker, Isabell Garcia, Kenzie Mente, Alisha Thomsen, Hunter Humphrey, Zoe Rezac, Britney Ford, Ashlyn Curry, Grace Nichols, Sara Webb, Madison Conrad, Alyssa Elijah, Jamie Kofron, Emma Pratt, Bryanna Simmermaker, Laressa Stout, Samantha DeMoss, Erica Shumaker and Katie Binns.  
Tipton placed 6th at the River Valley Conference meet last season.  Jamie Kofron won the shot put at the RVC meet and was second in class 2A at the state meet last year as a freshman. That finish was one of three, top-5 state finishes.  Caitlin Himes placed 3rd in the discus and Alyssa Crock placed 5th in the 100-meter dash.  Both have graduated.
Tipton will compete in 10 outdoor meets before the RVC meet in Bellevue on May 4.  The Tigers will host three home meets.  Tipton will have co-ed meets on March 28 and April 18.  The annual Tigerette Relays are scheduled for Thursday, April 13.

Knights Return Many From A Year Ago
CLARENCE — The North Cedar girl’s track team will return many athletes off of their 2016 team, one that sent four events to state.  Last season North Cedar placed 9th at the River Valley Conference meet last season.  The Knights had one RVC Champ, it’s 4X400-meter relay team of Cassie Cox, Tessa Fields, Martha Jesuit and Grace Proesch.  All four of those runners return to help lead the Knights team.    This season, The Knights look to do event more.
Qualifying for the state meet last year were three relay teams, the 4X400-meter relay, the sprint medley relay and the distance medley relay.  Adding to Cox, Fields, Jesuit and Proesch are Darby Hawtrey and Brittyn Wilhau who also return from state events last year.
Those athletes out for the North Cedar track team are: Amy Schroeder, Rany High , Sarah High, Alyssa Barnhart, Grace Proesch, Haven Brown, Alyssa Higbee, Brittyn Wilhau, Hannah Bachman, Katie Jilovic, Carly Montz , Kiera Musser, Fiona Raney, Kayla Sander, Kassadie Galloway, Tessa Fields, Sadie Brown, Andrea Wachendorf, Cassie Cox, Mariah Behrens, Katie Thompson, Callie Meyer, Leah Crock, Nicole Sander, Lexi Crist, Martha Jesuit, Darby Hawtrey, Morgan Sander and Sarah Hansen.  
The Knights will compete in 10 outdoor meets this year before the River Valley Conference meet in Bellevue.  The Knights host a home meet on Tuesday, April 11.  Teams coming to the meet are Alburnett, Central City, East Buchanan, Easton Valley, Lisbon, Lone Tree, Midland and Wilton.

New Faces Dot Wildcats Roster In 2017
DURANT — The Durant girl’s track and field team had a successful season a year ago.  Durant placed 11th at the River Valley Conference meet and sent six events to the state meet, three as champions from the state qualifying meet.  The Wildcats had two state qualifiers last season who placed in the top-3 in a state event.  Alyssa Williams won the 3,000-meter run and Brinn Grunder placed 3rd in the shot put.  Williams also placed 5th in the 1,500-meter run and 9th in the 800-meter run.
Other state qualifiers for Durant were Sunkyu Holbert in the 200-meter dash, Autumn Wolf in the long jump and the Wildcats distance medley relay.  Williams went to UNI, Grunder to Upper Iowa and Holbert to St. Ambrose to compete in track.
This year holds a lot of promise and opportunity for the Wildcats.  The Durant roster is at 21.  Those out are Ellie Berry, Haley Wolf, Addisyn Skinner, Madison Howe, Kaitlyn Wiese, Chelsea Alderman, Aubrey Doerscher, Heidi Wolf, Kyrnan Liske-Rochholz, Amorae Myers, Tori Novinski, Emily Seligman, Brittany Kahl, Jordyn Ostrand, Kerrigan Johnson, Breanna Moeller, Autumn Wolf, Allyson Heinrich, Kelly Alexander, Madison Willkomm and Morgan Mital.
The Wildcats will host a home meet on Tuesday, April 18 and Friday, April 21.  The meet on the 18th will have the following teams, Marquette, DeWitt, IMS, Louisa-Muscatine, Midland, West Liberty and Wilton.  The meet on the 21st will have Marquette, Camanche, NE Goose Lake and Wilton.

Beavers Look To Build On 2016
WILTON — The Wilton Beavers are looking forward to the new season after having a successful 2016 outdoor season.  
The Beavers team this year will be made up of the following athletes.  They are Kaylee Ford, Lexi Maurer, McKinnley Pittman, Emily Fausel, Brooke Doehrmann, Abby Brown, Machaela Breed, Becca Ball, Emily Lange, Linsey Ford, Karlie Schult, Kortney Drake, Taylor Goldermann, Kallie Poor, Kirsten Jurgersen, Karissa Storjohann, Hallie Speed, Aubrey Putman, Morgan Maurer, Lindsey Randolph and Kayla Hildreth.
The Beavers placed 8th at the River Valley Conference meet with 42.50 points.  Wilton had six events place in the top-10 at the conference meet with two athletes getting a pair of top-10 finishes.  Kaylee Ford was 6th in both the 1,500-meter and 3,000-meter run.  Kortney Drake placed 2nd in the 400 and 5th in the 100-meter dash.  Emily Lange placed 3rd in the high jump and the Beavers sprint medley relay team of Linsey Ford, Lange, Drake and Megan Kublik were runners-up in the event.
Wilton sent four events to state.  Lange won the high jump at the state qualifying meet.  Drake went to state in the 400-meter hurdles and Ford went in the 3,000-meter run.  Wilton also had a relay team, their spring medley relay team.  At state, Drake claimed the highest state finish with a 10th place finish in the 400-meter dash.

Wilton will host the annual Kriemeyer Relays on Monday, April 10.  Teams there are Davenport North, Durant, Lisbon, Marquette, Solon and Tipton.  The Beavers will compete in 10 outdoor meets before the River Valley Conference meet in Bellevue on Thursday, May 4.
