Area Teams Compete At Tigerette Relays

TIPTON — Three Conservative area girl’s track and field teams competed at the annual Tigerette Relays in Tipton last week.  Tipton, North Cedar and Durant were on hand for the meet that saw 14 teams vie for the team title.  Of the 14 teams, eight were from the River Valley Conference.  Monticello won the meet with a team score of 101 while Mt. Vernon was second with 91 points and Mount Pleasant was third with 59 points.

North Cedar scored 56 points and placed 5th while Tipton placed 8th with 36 team points.

North Cedar won three events at the meet, the 4X400 relay, 4X200 relay and the high jump.

The Knights 4X200-meter relay team of Tessa Fields, Martha Jesuit, Cassie Cox and Grace Proesch won the event in 1:49.99.  The Knights 4X400-meter relay team of Proesch, Fields, Cox and Sadie Brown won the event in a time of 9:52.42  Darby Hawtrey gave the Knights their third event win by winning the high jump with a best jump of 5-0.  The Knights only had one relay that they were in finish below third place.

North Cedar had three top-10 finishers in the individual events.  Carly Montz placed 6th in the 3,000-meter run in 12:15.45.  Hawtrey was 9th in the 110-meter hurdles and Katie Thompson was 9th in the 400-meter dash.

Tipton was led by sophomore junior Jamie Kofron who won the shot put.  Kofron won the event with a best throw of 41-7.5.

Tipton had three top-5 finishers in individual events at the meet.  Kenzie Mente placed 3rd in the 3,000-meter run in 11:40.94.  Tiffany Schott was 4th in the 400-meter hurdles in 1:14.18.  Amanda Smith placed 5th in the 800-meter run in 2:37.81.

Tipton’s best relay finishes came from 5th place finishes in the shuttle hurdle and distance medley relay events.  The Tigers shuttle hurdle relay team placed 5th with the team of Blake Ehler, Brittney Ford, Samanthan DeMoss and Tiffany Schott finished in 1:14.44.  The Tigers also placed 5th in the distance medley relay with the team of Emily Hermsen, Karlee Kamberling, Sommer Daniel and Amanda Smith in 4:44.64.

Wildcats Score 22 Points

Durant placed 12th at the meet with 22 team points.  The Wildcats did not win an event at the meet.

Durant’s best field event finish came from Autumn Wolf in the long jump.  Wolf placed third with a best jump of 15-10.25.  Amorae Myers also placed in the top-5 with a 4th place finish in the 100-meter dash in a time of 13.85.

The Wildcats top relay finish came from its 4X800-meter relay squad.  The team of Madison Howe, Tori Novinski, Heidi Wolf and Ellie Berry finished in the time of 11:19.42 for a 5th place finish.
