WEST LIBERTY — The North Cedar Knights won their first meet of the season last Tuesday at the West Liberty Invitational. The Knights scored a team high 167 points and were the only team over 100 points in the 13-team meet. Anamosa was second with 90 points and Tipton was third with 86 points.
The Knights won seven events at the meet. Nicole won the discus event with a top throw of 110-03. North Cedar had four wins come from individual events. Grace Proesch won three of those events. Proesch won the 100-meter dash in 13.02, the 200-meter dash in 27.34 and the 400-meter dash in 1:00.18. Cassie Cox won the 800-meter run in 2:27.63.
The Knights won two relay events. North Cedar’s 4X400-meter relay team of Martha Jesuit, Cassie Cox, Tessa Fields and Proesch won in a time of 4:11.34. The Knights won the distance medley relay with the team of Kiarra Musser, Lexi Crist, Tessa Fields and Cassie Cox in a time of 4:40.48.
Darby Hawtrey placed second in two events. Hawtrey was second in the high jump with a best jump of 5-feet. Hawtrey added a runner-up finish in the 100-meter hurdles in 17.16. Nicole Sander added a third place finish in the shot put with a best throw of 37-06 and Tessa Fields placed third in the 400-meter hurdles in 1:12.18.
The Knights had two runner-up finishes in relay events. North Cedar’s 4X100-meter relay team of Alyssa Barnhart, Hawtrey, Brittyn Wilhau and Lexi Crist were runners-up in 54.90. The Knights 4X800-meter relay team of Sadie Brown, Haven Brown, Katie Thompson and Barnhart were second in a time of 10:55.60.
Tigers Place Third, Win Three Events
Tipton won three events at the meet, one field event, one individual event and one relay event. Jamie Kofron won the shot put with a best throw of 38-feet, 9-inches. Kofron placed second in the discus with a best throw of 109-06. Kenzie Mente won the 3,000-meter run in a time of 11:34.08. The Tigers shuttle hurdle relay team of Blake Ehler, Brittney Ford, Ashley Curry and Tiffany Schott won the event in the time of 1:14.98.
Four Tipton events had two, top-10 finishes in them. In the 400-meter dash, Tiffany Schott placed 6th and Kamryn Chapman 8th. In the 800-meter run, Amanda Smith placed 3rd and Madison Conrad 10th. In the 110-meter high hurdles, Blake Ehler placed 8th and Brittney Ford 9th. The 400-meter hurdles had three, top-10 Tipton finishers. Schott placed 5th, Chapman 7th and Katie Binns 8th in the event. Hunter Humphrey placed 7th in the 100-meter dash in 13.96 and Emily Hermsen placed 8th in 29.70 in the 200-meter dash. Kenzie Mente placed 3rd in the 1,500-meter run in 5:27.19.
The Tigers distance medley relay team of Samantha Des Moss, Bryanna Simmermaker, Karlee Kamberling and Amanda Smith were runners-up in the event in a time of 4:45.07. The Tigers 4X800 and 4X400-meter relays each placed 4th.
Ford and Drake Lead Wilton Finishers
Wilton’s Kaylee Ford and Kortney Drake led the Beavers efforts at the Comet Invitational. Ford was second in the 1,500-meter run in a time of 5:26.99 and 3rd in the 3,000-meter run in a time of 11:40.01. Drake, placed 2nd in the 400-meter dash in 1:02.95 and 3rd in the 200-meter dash in 28.39. Drake added a 3rd place finish in the long jump with a best jump of 15-feet, 1-inch.
Wilton placed 7th in the team race finishing with 50.50 points in the 13-team meet.
Wilton’s best relay finish was their 5th place finish in the sprint medley relay. The team of McKinnley Pittman, Linsey Ford, Lexi Maurer and Drake finished in the time of 2:01.18. The Beavers 4X800-meter relay team of Abby Brown, Kirsten Jurgersen, Taylor Goldermann and Lindsey Randolph were 7th in 12:57.77. Wilton placed 9th in the 4X100-meter relay, the 4X200-meter relay.
Durant places 9th
The Durant Wildcats placed 9th at the meet with 38 team points. Durant was led by a third place finish by the Wildcats 4X800-meter relay team. The team of Ellie Berry, Madison Howe, Tori Novinski and Heidi Wolf placed third in a time of 11:31.03.
The Wildcats had three, top-10 finishes in the 800-meter run. Tori Novinski was 4th in a time of 2:48.22, Ellie Berry was 5th in 2:51.26 and Madison Howe was 6th in 2:52.21.
Amorae Myers turned in a pair of 6th place finishes. Myers was 6th in the 100-meter dash in 13.93 and 6th in the long jump with a best jump of 14-07.25.
The Wildcats also had a 4th place finish in the 4X100-meter relay event. The team of Myers, Autumn Wolf, Kelly Alexander and Jordyn Ostrand were fourth in a time of 55.44.
