Knights Back On Winning Track With Win At Monticello

  MONTICELLO — The North Cedar Knights rebound from their first match loss of the season with a road win at River Valley Conference North foe Monticello last Thursday, August 30. There, the Knights won three sets to one by scores of 25-17, 25-17, 22-25 and 26-24. The Knights started the season 4-0 and now are 5-1. North Cedar has not lost to Monticello in the regular season since the RVC was established in 2013. The Knights are now 6-0 against the Panthers in six matches and are 18-3 in sets against Monticello during that time.
  The Knights won the first set 25-17 and the second set by the same score, 25-17 to take a 2-0 match lead. The Panthers won the third set, 25-22 to trim the Knights lead to 2 sets to 1. The Knights then captured the match with a 26-24 fourth set win to claim the match 3-1.
  As a team, North Cedar had 151 attack attempts and served 86-for-96 in the match. Nicole Sander had a team-high 11 kills with Kassidie Galloway getting 8 and Erica Jones and Emma Boelyn each getting 6. Sydney Dennis led in assists with 30 and had 19 digs and served 16-for-16 with three aces. Katie Thompson had a team-high 22 digs and was a perfect 20-for-20 serving with an ace. She also had four kills. Erica Jones was 20-for-24 with 2 aces serving in the match and Boelyn had a team-high six blocks.
  The Knights began their season with a 4-1 run at the DeWitt Tournament on Saturday, August 25. There, the Knights faced two RVC North foes in Northeast and Camanche. North Cedar beat the Rebels but lost to the Indians.
  The Knights play at Springville next Thursday in a tournament. The Knights will then have two River Valley Conference North matches the following week at home. Northeast comes to town on Tuesday, September 11 and Camanche two days later on the 13th.
