Tipton Places Three In top-15 At Bob Brown Classic

  IOWA CITY — It was a good start to the season for the 3rd ranked class 2A Tipton Tiger boy’s cross-country team last Thursday in Iowa City. There, they got their first look at what they had in a competitive race and a peek at nearly half of the 13 River Valley Conference teams. Add four regionally ranked teams among the four classes and the Tigers had a lot of data to digest from their opening meet. The Tigers placed fourth out of 13 scoring teams at the meet and were one of six ranked teams at the meet. Ranked teams at the meet were: Tipton, Clear Creek Amana 2nd in 3A Marion 6th in 3A, Mt. Vernon-Lisbon 8th in 3A, Monticello 10th in 2A, and Calamus-Wheatland 12th in 1A.
  The Tigers had three top-15 finishers. Tipton sophomore Caleb Shumaker placed third in a time of 17:46 to lead the trio of THS finishers. Trent Pelzer placed 8th in 18:07 giving the Tigers, two top-10 finishes. Senior Ben Ellis placed 13th in 18:19. The Tigers scored 97 team points at the meet.
  The varsity part of the night allowed teams to run 10 runners per team or three more than a normal meet where seven runners are allowed to score. Other Tipton finishers were 34th Andrew Olseen in 19:13, 39th Landan Hill in 19:27, 44th Noah Jedlicka in 19:36, 53rd Gabe Peach in 19:55, 60th Cody Bohlmann in 20:12, and 66th Kayden Rezac in 20:18.
  Harrison Vanerlind from Marion was the overall winner with a winning time of 17:21. Jack Sexton from Clear Creek-Amana was second in 17:46. Clear Creek-Amana had three of the top-5 finishers at the meet. Marion won the meet with a team score of 38 while the Clippers were second with 50 points. Western Dubuque placed third with 96 points.
  River Valley Conference schools and their finishes were Monticello 7th with 166 points, Wilton 10th with 316 points, West Liberty 11th with 348 points and Iowa City Regina 12th with 362 points.
  The Tipton junior varsity boy’s team placed 6th in the team standings. Three Tigers placed in the top-25 finishers. Troy Butler led Tipton junior varsity finishers with an 8th place finish in 20:40. Kael Jauron placed 15th in 21:07 and A.J. Thumma placed 25th in 21:28.
  The Tigers will host an 18-team home meet on Tuesday, September 4 at the Tipton City Park. Tipton will also run next Saturday at an Invitational at Monticello.
