IOWA CITY, Iowa - Former University of Iowa tight end Michael Titley will serve as honorary captain as Iowa hosts Iowa State in the annual Iowa Corn Cy-Hawk Series game at Kinnick Stadium (4:05 p.m., FOX) Saturday.
Titley, a native of Brooklyn, New York, joined the Iowa program from Nassau Community College, where he had earned first-team junior college All-America honors as a sophomore. Titley played for the Hawkeyes in 1989 and 1990, helping Iowa earn a share of the 1990 Big Ten title and a spot in the 1991 Rose Bowl Game.
Titley made an immediate impact with the Hawkeyes while following Iowa All-American tight end Marv Cook, who was a senior in 1988. Titley had 22 receptions for 256 yards as a junior. He was second on the team with 29 receptions (280 yards, three touchdowns) as a senior.
Titley earned first-team All-Big Ten honors in 1990 and was a team Most Valuable Player. He was drafted by Miami in the 10th round of the 1991 NFL Draft.
Titley will accompany the Iowa captains to the center of the field for Saturday’s pregame coin toss. He will also be with the Hawkeyes in the locker room before and after the game.
