Class 2A Regional Volleyball Pairings Announced

From the Cheap Seats: Class 2A Regions Are Known

The postseason is less than two weeks away for high school volleyball and late Monday afternoon the Iowa High School Athletic Union released their class 2A Regional volleyball pairings.  Classes 3A-5A were released after presstime on Tuesday, October 3 and Tipton’s postseason destination or, fingers crossed, home matches will be in next week’s paper.  Below are the brackets for the three class 2A teams covered by our newspaper.
The first round regional play starts on Tuesday, October 17.  Regional semifinal matches will be on Monday, October 23 with Regional semifinals on Thursday, October 26.  Regional Finals are scheduled for Tuesday, October 31.
The 2017 state volleyball tournament is scheduled for Tuesday, November 7-Friday, November 10 at the U.S. Cellular Center in Cedar Rapids.  The class 2A  quarterfinals are at 2 and 4 p.m. on Wednesday, November 8.  The 2A semifinals are on Thursday, November 9 at 4:00 p.m. and the class 2A championship is at 4:45 on Friday, November 10.
In Region 7, the North Cedar Knights are one of three River Valley Conference North teams in the region.  The Knights would host Alburnett to begin postseason play on October 17.  The winner of that match would play Lisbon, at Lisbon on October 23.  The Region 7 semifinal is at Cascade against either Cascade, Clayton Ridge or state ranked #14 Bellevue.  The Region 7 final is scheduled to be played at Maquoketa Valley with top-ranked Dike-New Hartford the likely favorite in the top half of the bracket.
Two Conservative area volleyball teams will play in class 2A Region 8.  Durant will open at Wapello with the winner playing at Wilton on October 23.  The winner of the 2A quarterfinal at Wilton will play a 2A Region 8 semifinal at Wilton on October 26 against either Mediapolis, Louisa-Muscatine or West Burlington.  The Region 8 final’s location is to be determined at this time, but the favorite on the top of the bracket will be state ranked #11 Iowa City Regina.  If the Regals meet Wilton in the Region 8 final, it will be a rematch of the five-set thriller that the Regals won at Wilton earlier this season.

If you haven’t done so, check out a RVC volleyball match soon.  The conference season ends this week, but next week, treat yourself to some good volleyball.  The River Valley Conference tournament will be next Tuesday and Thursday.
