Tigers Win One At CR Wash Invite

CEDAR RAPIDS — The Tipton swimming team competed at the Cedar Rapids Washington junior varsity invitational last Saturday.  There, the Tigers won one event and placed 7th in the nine-team invite.  The invite featured five schools from the Mississippi Valley Conference and another from the Mississippi Athletic Conference.

The Tigers won the 2000-yard medley relay, finishing first out of 22 teams in the event.  The team of Ashley Mente, Britney Ford, Zoe Stonebraker and Ali Anderson won the event in a time of 2:05.24.  The relay team was in heat four of four and had the best seed time in the event at 2:03.11.  Mente swam her leg in a time of 32.52, Ford swam her leg in 34.95, Stonebraker swam her leg in 29.83 and Anderson swam her leg in 27.95.

The Tigers also placed in the top-5 in the 200-yard freestyle relay.  The Tigers were third in the event out of 20 teams.  The team of Ashley Mente, Sara Webb, Artica Dykstra and Zoe Stonebraker finished in the time of 1:56.62.  The winning time was 1:51.34 and the second place team finished in 1:53.40 in the event.  Mente swam the leadoff leg in the race in 29.60.  Webb swam her leg in 29.87 and Dykstra swam her leg in 29.81.  Stonebraker anchored the Tigers relay team, swimming her leg in 27.34.

Individually, Tipton had three events place in the top-5.  Zoe Stonebraker was the runner-up in the 500-yard freestyle in the time of 5:53.27.  It was the second time in as many meets that she broke the 6-minute mark in the event.  Stonebraker also placed 3rd in the 100-yard butterfly in a time of 1:10.27.  Ashley Mente claimed the other top-5 finish with a 4th place finish in the 50-yard freestyle in the time of 28.50.

Two other Tigers had top-10 finishes in individual events.  Sara Webb was 7th in the 100-yard freestyle in 1:07.68.  The other top-10 finish came from Artica Dykstra.  Dykstra placed 8th in the 100-yard backstroke in 1:20.60.

The Tigers are nearing the end of their regular season.  Tipton swam at Williamsburg Monday and will be back in the pool on Monday, October 16 at Fairfield in their regular season finale.
