Tigers Dominate At Williamsburg Meet

WILLIAMSBURG — The second ranked team in class 2A, Tipton Tigers dominated the field at the Williamsburg cross-country invitational last Tuesday.  There, the Tigers scored a team low 22 points to win the meet and placed a team best five runners in the top-10 finishers.  The Tigers will be back at it this weekend when they run at the North Linn Invitational Saturday morning.
The team race was a top-10 class 2A battle between 2nd ranked Tipton and 6th ranked Williamsburg.  The Raiders would place second in the team race with a score of 35 with Solon placing a distant third with 93 points.  The Tigers had five of the top-10 finishers and three of the first five individual finishers at the meet.
Ben Ellis led Tipton with a runner-up finish in 17:20, closely followed by Caleb Shumaker in third and Trent Plezer in 4th.  Noah Jedlicka just missed a top-5 finish, placing 6th and Bryce Deerberg was close behind in 7th.  Shumaker finished the race in 17:25, Pelzer in 17:33, Jedlicka in 17:51 and Deerberg in 17:52.
Other Tipton finishers were Gabe Peach 14th in 18:35 and Brandon Valet 16th in 18:41.
In the latest ITAFCA class 2A rankings two River Valley Conference teams are ranked in the top-3.  Tipton holds steady at #2 while Mid-Prairie is #3.  Monticello also shows up in the teams to watch this week.  In class 1A, another RVC school is ranked high with Bellevue ranked number-2.
The Tipton junior varsity boy’s won the JV meet with a team score of 37.  Solon was second with 40 points and Williamsburg third with 45.  
Tipton freshman Kayden Rezac won the meet with a time of 19:24.  Teammates Colby Kleppe and Kael Jauron placed 5th and 6th.  
The Tiger middle school team placed third with 62 points behind Vernon Middle School who won the meet with a score of 47 and Williamsburg with 50.  Two Tigers placed in the top-5 to lead the way in Cody Bohlman 4th and A.J. Thumma 5th.

Tigers Take 3rd At Williamsburg Meet
WILLIAMSBURG — The Tipton Tiger girl’s cross-country team closed the gap between them and Solon and placed third at the Williamsburg Invitational.  The Tigers scored 86 points to place third at the meet.  Unranked Solon won the meet with a team score of 25 after placing five runners in the top-10 finishers including meet individual champion Kiersten Conway.  Conway finished in 20:17.  Teammate Sophie Nicol was fourth in 20:58, Erin Kerkhoff was fifth in 20:58, Ella Duster was ninth in 21:29 and Nicole Shafer was tenth in 21:29.  Williamsburg, ranked 5th in class 2A, placed second with 37 team points.  The Raiders placed three runners in the top-10 led by Megan Rathjen who placed third in 20:52.
The Tigers scored 86 team points and beat a good Lynnville-Sully team by six points as the Hawks scored 92 points in fourth.  Tipton was led by Rachel Bierman with an 11th place finish, just missing the top-10, in a time of 22:10.  The Tigers had three other runners place in the top-20 all finishing one after the other.  Kallie Wallick placed 17th in 22:35, Alyssa Elijah placed 18th in 22:45 and Tiffany Schott placed 19th in 22:52.
All seven of the Tigers runners nearly placed in the top-25 finishers.  Ashlyn Curry placed 21st in 23:31, Zoe Rezac placed 23rd in 23:57 and Halle McCollough placed 26th in 24:10.
Tipton had two runners compete in the junior varsity part of the meet.  Jaydon Erikson placed in the top-10 with a 9th place finish in 26:17 while Zoe Comstock placed 17th in 27:31.
The Tipton middle school Tigers placed 5th with a team score of 117 in their race.  Addie Erickson led the Tigers with a 11th place finish in 10:34 and Alyssa Mente was 17th in 10:47.
