IOWA CITY — For the third straight year, the Tipton boy’s cross-country team will be going to the state meet in Fort Dodge. The Tigers advanced to the state meet by winning the Iowa City, class 2A State Qualifying meet last Thursday. The Tigers earned their third straight trip to the state meet in Fort Dodge. The Tigers placed 11th last year and 13th in 2015.
The Tigers placed four runners in the top-15 finishers, the most for a team at the meet. Tipton junior Ben Ellis won the meet with a time of 17:51 and teammate freshman Caleb Shumaker was the runner-up in a time of 18:01. Trent Pelzer placed 6th, giving the Tigers three top-10 finishers, in a time of 18;15. Tipton junior Noah Jedlicka made it four Tigers placing in the top-15 with an 11th place finish in 18:46.
Other Tipton finishers were Gabe Peach 17th in 19:16, Bryce Deerberg 22nd in 19:25 and Corey Wallick 52nd in 20:47. Wallick ran for the first time in weeks after returning from an injury.
North Cedar did not have a state qualifier. The Knights were led by senior Seamus Raney with a 53rd place finish in 20:51. Two others placed in the top-70, giving North Cedar three top-70 finishers. Treat Spahr placed 65th in 21:41 and Devon Willis placed 68th in 21:55.
The Knights then had a small pack of runners place in the 70’s. Cory Cox placed 75th in 22:59, Joe Condon placed 76th in 23:02 and Jacob Spahr placed 77th in 23:22. Robert Anderson was the other North Cedar finisher, placing 81st in 23:43.
