EPWORTH — The Tipton Tiger volleyball team won their 23rd match of the season on Saturday, October 1 at the Western Dubuque Tournament in Epworth. There, the Tigers won two, and lost two matches to improve to 23-5 overall. The Tigers will host West Branch on Tuesday, October 3rd.

The Tigers beat RVC South foe West Branch by twin scores of 21-7 and beat Dubuque Senior by twin scores of 21-12. The Tigers fell to class 5A number-7 ranked Pleasant Valley in three sets after winning the first set 21-16. PV won the second set 21-12 and took the tight third set, 20-18. The Tigers lost to Western Dubuque in three sets as well. Tipton again won the first set 25-16, but lost the second set 29-27 and the third 15-7.
Pleasant Valley had a record of 18-1 coming into the tournament and were 43-5 in sets and the Tigers won the first set in the match. Western Dubuque after the tournament that day is now riding an 8-match win streak after having five total match wins for most of the season.
Tipton had 113 kills led by Sommer Daniel with 47. Daniel led Tipton servers, going 42-for-46 with 5 aces. Amanda Smith led in assists with 51 and digs with 25. Kamryn Chapman led the Tigers in blocks with 6.
The Tigers improved to 18-5 in 23 tournament matches this season. The Tigers have won two tournaments this year, Lisbon and Williamsburg.
