Beavers fall at state ranked Benton

VAN HORNE — The Wilton football team had a tall task in front of them last Friday when they traveled to Class 2A No. 7 Benton. The Bobcats moved up to No. 7 from No. 8 in last week’s Radio Iowa football poll. The Bobcats showed o their offensive repower, racking up 516 yards of total o ense and scoring all of their 48 points in the rst half of their 48-14 win over Wilton.

Wilton football coach Ryan Hetzler and his sta have been using the non-district schedule to nd the right pieces to a new puzzle which is his team this year that graduated a large senior class.

“Going into Friday night we were looking to nalize where we wanted our team to be and I think we have done that. We have been evaluating the guys during the non-district season. I was happy how we passed the football. We need to be more efficient on o ense and that will come,” said Hetzler.

“Even though we lost by a big margin to Mid-Prairie and Benton, we needed to see teams with that type of speed. After the game, we talked with the guys and talked about preparing ourselves for district play,” he said.

Wilton begins district play Friday at Sigourney-Keota.

Benton led 21-0 after the rst quarter. A pair of Lawrence Wal- lace touchdown runs from one and ve yards out, along with a 46-yard touchdown pass from Clay Krousie to Turner Schroeder. Benton scored on all four possessions in the second half, adding 27 more points on four touchdowns.

The Beavers scored the rst of their two touchdowns in the second quarter. Trailing 34-0, Beaver quarterback Mason Ormsby connected with senior receiver Buddy Darting on an 82-yard touchdown pass. The two-point conversion try was no good. The nal Wilton touchdown came in the fourth quarter. Ormsby threw his second touchdown pass of the game, this one to Colby Sawvell for 28 yards. Ormsby ran in a two-point try to set the nal at 48-14.

Despite the score, Wilton had 318 yards of total o ense and really was able to move the football in the air. Mason Ormsby passed for 262 yards on 12-for-19 attempts with two touchdowns and no interceptions. Colby Sawvell caught the most Wilton passes with six for 78 yards. Darting nished with a career-high 104 receiving yards on three catches. Trae Hagen and Jackson Hull led Wilton in rushing with 25 and 24 yards.

Defensively, Wilton’s top tackle leader was Coy Baker with seven, Karson Wiley with six and Hull, Sawvell, and Grant Conway with four each.

Benton beat Wilton last year in Wil- ton 26-13. The Bobcats nished the season 9-2, losing only one regular-season game (Union) before losing to West Liberty in the playo s.

The Bobcats were led o ensively by senior quarterback Clay Krousie. Krousie passed for 300 yards and rushed for 128 yards. He passed for two touchdowns and rushed for a score. Last year he completed 11-of- 21 passes for 79 yards and one touch- down and rushed for 25 yards in the Bobcats win in Wilton. Krousie’s totals were team-highs in the game for Benton. Jacob Brecht was the Bobcats leading receiver in the game with three receptions for 157 yards and two touchdowns.

Defensively, Benton was led in tack- les by Mason Dellamuth with 6, and Austin Roos and Ian Rup with 5 each. The Beavers were 1-3 in non-district games. Wilton will begin district play Friday at Sigourney-Keota before returning home for weeks six and seven.

“We have a rivalry with the two schools. We are excited to play football on Friday. We start the season over Friday at 0-0,” said Hetzler.

Knights win on the road, improve to 3-1

COLUMBUS JCT. — The North Cedar Knight football team is on a roll in 2019, securing their third straight win, a 33-8 road victory at Colum- bus Junction last Friday night. The Knights improved to 3-1 in four non-district games and will hit the road again this week going to Cascade for their Class 1A District 4 opener. The Knights are one of three district 4 teams with a 3-1 record or better. West Branch is 4-0 and Dyersville-Beck- man is also 3-1 after non-district play.

“Our group of guys has done a great job of focusing on what is in front of us. The best thing is that they are invested in the right reasons. They put the e ort in and if we keep getting that, we are going to be ne in these nal ve games,” said North Cedar football coach Adam Hadenfeldt.

“Our next challenge will be that we haven’t been here (3-1) for a few years. How are we going to handle success? We (coaches) would rather be on this end though, then 1-3 going into district play,” said Hadenfeldt.

North Cedar used big plays to put Columbus Junction away last Friday. Three of the ve North Cedar touchdowns were scoring plays over 30 yards. North Cedar had 390 yards of total offense in the game while holding Columbus Junction to under 150 yards.

The Knights scored touchdowns on their rst two possessions of the game. On the opening drive, North Cedar marched 70 yards in six plays to score the game’s rst points. Ethan Sahr had a 29-yard run to pick up the Knights rst, rst down. Two plays later, Sahr connected with Kael Unruh for a 33-yard touchdown pass for a 7-0 lead.

The Knights defense got o to a good start as well forcing a punt after Columbus Junction faced a 3rd and 16 situation. North Cedar took control of the football game on their second drive of the game. The Knights marched down the eld again, this time for 60 yards in four plays. Two big plays set up the score. A 28-yard pass from Sahr to Gage Walshire and a wacky running play that saw Brody Hawtrey fumble and senior lineman Brennen Kreel scoop up the football and run to the 7-yard line after a 22-yard gain, setting up the next score. Tyler Thurston crossed the goal line from seven yards out, scoring his rst touch- down this season, to give the Knights a 13-0 lead.

Columbus Junction would answer the second Knight score with their only score of the football game. To do so, they needed to use some trickery. Columbus Junction used a fake punt pass that UK Bawi threw for 55 yards to Jamie Villegas. Four plays later, Bawi scored on a 1-yard run. A Tucker Bright 2-point run set the score at 13-8, late in the rst quarter. That would be as close as the Knights came to have a close game.

North Cedar would score 20 unanswered points with a touchdown in each of the nal three quarters to secure the win. An Ethan Sahr 1-yard run, his rst rushing score of the year, in the second quarter helped North Cedar go to halftime up 20-8. Sahr and Kael Unruh would connect for scoring passes in each of the third and fourth quarters. The Sahr to Unruh connection went for 67 yards in the third quarter and 40 yards in the fourth quarter. Sahr had his best game this season, throwing for 247 yards on 11 completions with three touch- down passes. For the season he is close to 800 yards passing (793) and had seven touchdown passes. For his career, he went over 2,000 career passing yards in recent weeks. Brody Hawtrey went over 350 yards for the season, upping his team lead with 372 yards by rushing for 56 yards on nine carries. Unruh caught four passes for 163 yards and three touchdowns. He has 377 yards and ve touchdowns on the season and like Sahr, the duo is in the top-10 at their position in Class 1A.

Defensively, Brennen Kreel had nine tackles, four tackles for loss and two sacks. Thurston had 8 tackles by James Garner and Caden Wendt each had six. Wendt also had two sacks in the game.

North Cedar will play at Cascade (1-3) Friday. The Cougars have had a hard time passing the football with only 361 yards in four games with three passing touchdowns against seven interceptions. Colby Holmes leads Cascade rushers with 283 yards and two touchdowns. The Knights are back home on Friday, October 4 when they host West Branch for homecoming.

Column: Scarbrough's Take: What an Eight-Team Playoff Might Be … for Now

Scarbrough's Take

By Lyn Scarbrough - Lindy's Sports

College football needs an eight-team playoff.

A growing number of coaches, media outlets and analysts are coming around to that obvious conclusion. That idea has been supported in this column more than once in recent seasons and probably will be again.

The football musical chairs game … five Power 5 conferences with only four available playoff slots … is inherently flawed, has never been fair and never will be. It should be ended. Changing it next season would be doing it too late.

But for now, the four-team College Football Playoff is how it will be. As they say … It is what it is.

That being the case, let’s have some fun with it.

How would an eight-team playoff look today, if the field was determined by how college football has developed four weeks into the 2019 season?

There are still 23 undefeated teams in the Power 5 and Group of 5 conferences.

Among Power 5 conferences are five teams each from the SEC (Alabama, Auburn, Florida, Georgia, LSU) and Big Ten (Iowa, Minnesota, Ohio State, Penn State, Wisconsin). The ACC (Clemson, Virginia, Wake Forest) and Big 12 (Baylor, Kansas State, Oklahoma) each have three. And California is the only undefeated team in the Pac-12.

Among Group of 5 conference teams three are from the American Athletic Conference (Memphis, Navy, SMU)), joined by Boise State (Mountain West), Appalachian State (Sun Belt) and UAB (Conference USA).

This could develop several ways, according to how the eight-team format would be set up.

** It could be the eight highest ranked teams in the final poll. Five SEC teams are among the current Top 8 teams. Using the latest Coaches Poll released on Sunday, this would be the pairings:

No. 1 Clemson vs. No. 8 Florida – ACC vs. SEC, Dabo vs. Dan.

No. 2 Alabama vs. No. 7 Auburn – Could it get better than an Iron Bowl replay?

No. 3 Georgia vs. No. Ohio State – That’s current Bulldog Jake Fromm against former Bulldog Justin Fields.

No. 4 Oklahoma vs. No. 5 LSU – That’s former Buckeye Joe Burrow against former Crimson Tider Jalen Hurts.

This would be the all-time greatest weekend in college football history with a heavy dose of the Southeastern Conference. That’s what happens when a month into the season there are still five SEC teams among the Top 8 in the country.

Of course, this scenario could never happen, primarily because of SEC cannibalism.

Alabama still has to play LSU and Auburn.

Georgia still has to play Florida and Auburn.

LSU still has to play Auburn, Florida and Alabama.

Florida still has to play LSU, Auburn and Georgia.

Auburn has it worst of all, having to face all four of the other ranked teams, after already having to win games away from home over nationally ranked Oregon and Texas A&M.

** It could be each of the Power 5 conference champions, plus the highest ranked Group of 5 team, plus the highest ranked Independent, plus one at-large team.

Can’t be sure on the league champions, but for this little game, go with the current highest ranked team in each conference winning their championship game.

That would give Clemson (ACC), Alabama (SEC), Ohio State (Big Ten), Oklahoma (Big 12) and California (Pac-12). Notre Dame, currently ranked No. 10, would be highly ranked enough to represent the Independents. Boise State, currently ranked No. 15, would represent the Group of 5 leagues. And, Georgia would be the highest ranked team left out, so the Bulldogs would be the at-large team.

That would be another power-packed field, another home run for college fans.

Either of these formats would leave out Wisconsin (No. 9), Penn State (No. 11), Iowa (No. 14) and many teams currently with one loss (Texas, Oregon, Washington, Utah and Southern Cal to name a few.

Again, this scenario wouldn’t play out because in-conference match-ups will eliminate the losers from the CFP picture. But, it has happened most years that some teams with one loss end up in the Final Four.

Alabama for example, claimed the National Championship in 2017, when it didn’t win the SEC championship, the SEC West Division title, or even its own state championship. That’s just the way the current messed-up system can work.

So, come on NCAA decision makers. Give the fans and the teams what they deserve. Make it a fair playing field. Set up an eight-team College Football Playoff.

But for now, the possibilities are fun to play with.

Tigers Give Bears All They Can Handle

TIPTON — In a much anticipated high school football match-up, the Tipton Tigers hosted West Branch last Friday. The Bears came in with a high state ranking in Class 1A. Both teams wanted to get a boost heading into the first week of district play next week. Tipton passed the ball far more than expected and put up a strong defensive line, yet West Branch spread the ball around for a 24-14 win over their hosts Friday.

Bear receiver Trey Eagle, quarterback Gavin Hierseman, running back Tanner Lukavsky and kicker Cael Fiderlein all recorded six points each in the game.

“That was a hard-fought win,” West Branch Head Coach Butch Pedersen said in the post-game huddle. “You’ve got to give credit to Tipton — they’re a good football team. But you beat them by, so we’re a pretty good football team, too.”

Tipton Head Coach Mark Langenfeld said the Tigers “shot ourselves in the foot.”

“West Branch — they’re not only a good team, they’re a disciplined team,” he said. “They don’t make mistakes. I mean, how many … if you look at the penalties and you look at big plays? They had them all. A disciplined team. Those are the toughest to beat.”

Langenfeld called himself happy with the Tigers’ “physicality.”

“I thought we matched a great West Branch team pretty well,” he said. “But we can’t make mistakes.”

He did think the Tigers’ defensive line highlighted their side of the game.

“Personally, I think our defensive line is one of our better groups of people,” Langenfeld said. “But Lukavsky killed us with the cutbacks. It goes back to discipline. We tried, got a little excited, overpursued and the kid’s got great vision.”

The Bears got off to a slow start but managed a 10-0 lead at halftime, and both teams scored once in each of the latter two quarters.

Dakota Kaalberg made one of the bigger yard-gathering receptions on a trick play late in the second quarter. Eagle had returned a punt to Tipton’s 42 but a Tiger sack set West Branch back eight yards to midfield. On the next play, Gavin Hierseman threw a lateral to Eagle, who played quarterback in junior varsity, and Eagle tossed it 30 yards to Kaalberg along the Tiger sidelines, who made a leaping catch for it. Kaalberg then caught another short pass to put West Branch that much closer, and a Fiderlein field goal with 2.8 seconds left helped the Bears reach that 10-0 halftime lead.

In the first three weeks of the season, Tipton had only connected on seven passes for 153 yards. On Friday, they found receivers five times for 49 yards.

“That’s something we practiced a lot this week and had to get going,” Langenfeld said. “We haven’t been able to throw the last few games and it hurt us two weeks ago. Last week we had a nail-biter because they put 9-10 guys in the box and you can’t block 9-10 with only seven. We did the best we could — we got about four yards at a time. It was enough against Durant, but it’s something we worked a lot on in practice.

Tipton collected 117 yards at halftime, 14 more than West Branch’s 103, even though the Tigers had yet to cross the goal line. The Tigers held West Branch to minus-12 yards rushing in the first half.

“I’m happy with how my team responded,” the Tigers coach said. “What I’ve seen in the past year is that the team gets down and we fall apart, so there’s a lot to build off of thee for us. I think things are looking positive going into district play and what better than to play a strong opponent (before that)?”

West Branch did not allow the Tigers to get any closer than 10 points in the second half, but the backbreaker came midway through the fourth quarter. The Bears’ drive stalled at the Tiger 40 and Tanner Lukavsky’s punt rolled into the coffin corner, putting Tipton on the one-yard line.

On the third running attempt, the Bears knocked the ball loose and Morgan Hartz recovered it back at the Tipton 1. Already up 17-7, West Branch ran a quarterback sneak and Gavin Hierseman punched it in for a 24-7 lead.

A Frank Bierman 25-yard touchdown catch in the third quarter and an Austin Lenz 5-yard in the fourth quarter accounted for the THS points.

Lenz rushed for 73 yards on 17 carries while Tanner Lukavsky led West Branch rushers with 74 yards on 13 carries. Hierseman passed for 110 yards and Blake Wilking passed for 25 yards for the Tigers. Defensively, Cael Fiderlein and Trey Eagle led Bear tacklers with 11 and 10. Tipton was led by Nile Schuett with 7, and Connor Hermiston, Jessie Lieser and Kaleb Nerem each with 6.

The Tigers hit the road this week when they play Camanche to open district play. The game will be played at the Clinton Lumberkings stadium with a kick-off time of 4:45.

No. 6 Wilton sweeps West Branch

By Gregory R. Nor eet gregory.nor eet@ westbranchtimes.com

WEST BRANCH — West Branch could not take a set from the undefeated No. 6 Wil- ton, but it twice came close, including in the third set where the Bears overcame a large de - cit to catch up and take a temporary lead.

Wilton won 25-20, 25-13, 25-13. The Beavers only gave up one set all season up until facing the Bears in a hot West Branch gymnasium.

“We have so many kids playing new spots, we’ve added so many di erent levels to our offense that it is important for us to win the long rally, try and get the block and then dig up or chase down the ball. And that’s been our philosophy,” she said. “I feel we did that achieve that at times tonight. At times we fell short, but it’s early and we’ll keep xing things.”

Grunder said the Bears brought a strong challenge.

“I thought that this is exactly what we needed,” she said. “West Branch did a really nice job overall. They swung hard, they put up a good block -- those are some things we have not seen a lot of yet this season, so this was an important match for us.”

Grunder said the Beavers’ serve-receive struggled. “We’ve been spending a lot of time on it, so that’s disappoint- ing,” she said. “But we’ll get better.”

Wilton led the third set, working up a 7-1 lead. West Branch started matching them point for point and trailed 14-9 when Wilton called a time-out. That’s where the Bears started to catch up, going on an 11-4 run to take a 20-18 lead when the Beavers called for another time-out.

When Wilton returned to the court, they outscored West Branch 7-3 to secure the win. Grunder said West Branch disrupted Wilton’s momentum.

“We talk a lot about momentum and capitalizing on momentum,” she said. “We talk about winning the big rally, the long rally, and we had to refocus a little bit.

She said both heat and fatigue and the team’s youth all factored into letting that third set get away from them for a short while.

“We need to battle through that stu , so I think West Branch got some momentum there, got some good swings and we needed to make some adjustments, and that’s my fault,” Grunder said.

The Bears coach said tough teams like Wilton show West Branch where it needs work.

West Branch hosted three other matches that evening, from junior high through junior varsity, and by the time varsity stepped onto the court, the gym had warmed up considerably. Despite a pair of four-foot-tall industrial fans, the crowd was sweating from the heat and players frequently stopped to mop the court after diving plays allowed skin to come into contact with the oor.

Knights WIn At Home, Move To 2-1

STANWOOD — The North Cedar Knights are over the .500 mark. To do that, they had to take a hard-fought 21-7 game at home against Camanche last Friday. The Knights are over the .500 mark for the first time since the 2014 season. That year they were 9-2 and advanced to the second round of the playoffs. North Cedar’s only win last season came at home, a 53-24 win against Columbus Junction. Until the win Friday, North Cedar has only won two home games combined since the 2015 season.

Camanche got the football first and crossed mid-field on their second play of the game. However, two plays later, the Knights got a big turnover when Kael Unruh picked off a Jordan Lawrence pass at the 27-yard line and returned it seven yards. North Cedar then marched 66 yards down the field in 12 plays to score the first points of the game. Senior quarterback Ethan Sahr connected with receiver Gage Walshire on a 13-yard touchdown pass to give North Cedar a 7-0 lead with 4:44 left in the opening quarter. Sahr was 4-for-5 for 54 yards passing the football on the drive.

The score would hold until the second quarter. There, North Cedar extended their lead to 14-0 with 7:38 left before halftime on Sahr’s second touchdown pass of the game. This one went 35 yards to Unruh. It was just the second North Cedar possession of the game, and the scoring drive spanned 13 plays.

Neither team scored in the third quarter as the score remained 14-0 North Cedar heading to the fourth. Each team would score a touchdown in the final quarter. Camanche scored their only points of the game with 9:30 left in the game on a 5-yard Cade Everson run to trim the Knights lead to 14-7. The Indians would get a chance to tie the game on the ensuing North Cedar drive. The Knights fumbled the football and Camanche recovered two plays into their ensuing offensive possession. Camanche however, could not convert a 4th and 12 situation, turning the back over to North Cedar. The Knights would need just eight plays to put the game out of reach. Sahr tossed a short pass out of the backfield to Brody Hawtrey, who juked and jived his way to a 29-yard touchdown pass, giving North Cedar a two-score lead, 21-7 with 2:09 left in the game. A desperation throw by Lawrence was intercepted by Unruh inside the Knight 10-yard line, securing the victory.

North Cedar rushed for 124 yards in the game. Brody Hawtrey rushed for 118 yards on 27 carries. It was the second straight week he has topped the 100-yard rushing mark. Ethan Sahr passed for a season-best 196 yards on 12-for-16 completions with 3 touchdown passes. He topped the 500-yard passing mark through three games with 546 total yards. Gage Walshire had a season-high six receptions for 96 yards and a touchdown to lead the Knight receiving stats.

Defensively, North Cedar was led in tackles by Walshire with 8 and James Garner with 7. Walshire also had two tackles for loss. Caden Wendt had 4 tackles for loss. Unruh had three interceptions for 13 return yards. Hawtrey had a sack and Sabian Mesinas had a fumble recovery.

‘Sledge’ stays in Tipton for another year

TIPTON — The annual game between Tipton and Durant that both teams play for a sledgehammer went to the Tipton Tigers for the sixth straight year. Tipton improves to 2-1 on the season and will host Class 1A state ranked West Branch Friday night. The Bears are 3-0 and have scored 24 or more points in each of their first three games with a high of 39 points in last week’s 39-33 win at Williamsburg.

Tipton wasted no time in scoring the game's first points. The Tigers got the football first and on their opening drive, marched 63 yards in six plays for the games first score. Frank Bierman rumbled up the middle for an 18-yard scoring run to open the score in the game and give THS a 7-0 lead. Durant’s first possession ended in a three and out where they punted back to the Tigers.

On Tipton’s second possession, the Tigers began at their own 34-yard line. It didn’t matter. Another long methodical march down the field, this time for 66 yards, resulted in the Tigers second touchdown, an Austin Lenz 5-yard run. The score gave THS a 14-0 first quarter lead and gave Lenz his team leading fifth touchdown on the ground this year.

Durant got on the scoreboard in the second quarter. The Wildcats answered the second THS score with a long scoring drive of their own on their second possession. Durant mixed the run and pass over their 9-play, 70-yard drive. Keagan Head waltzed into the endzone from two yards out to set the score at 14-7, a score that would hold until the halftime break.

Each team would score again in the second half. Tipton extended their lead to 21-7 with a Blake Wilkins 1-yard touchdown run in the third quarter, and Durant pulled back within one score, 21-13, with a fourth quarter touchdown pass of 40 yards from Keagan Head to Jake Willkomm. The Durant score came after a Tipton turnover near mid-field. The Wildcats stayed in the game, giving themselves a chance. The defense gave the offense three more fourth quarter possessions, but the Wildcats did not cross mid field on any of them.

The THS offense was led on the ground by a trio of seniors. Austin Lenz rushed for 104 yards and a touchdown on 16 carries for the Tigers. He averaged 6.5 yards a carry. Quarterback Blake Wilkins rushed for 64 yards on 18 carries and a touchdown. He averaged 3.5 yards a carry. Frank Bierman rushed for 84 yards on 13 carries and a touchdown. He averaged 6.3 yards a carry. Wilkins passed for 19 yards and Payten Elijah caught one pass for 19 yards.

Defensively, Tipton came up big, allowing only 179 yards on 46 plays. It was the lowest yard total for the first three games. Connor Hermiston and Jessie Lieser led THS in tackles with 6 each while Kaleb Nerem had 5. Hermiston had two tackles for loss while Lieser, Nerem and Bierman each had a tackle for loss. Elijah added to his Class 2A leading interception total with two more pick offs for five total in three games.

Coming off of a 5-5 season in 2010, Durant struggled to find wins in 2011. The Tigers had the same issue. The Tigers were looking for win No. 1 that year when head coach Josh Bahr tired motivating his team with a take from the University of Iowa. Iowa, who struggled under current legendary coach Kirk Ferentz used the mantra of keep hitting the rock and it will break, meaning keep working hard and wins will come. Bahr had a sledgehammer commissioned and it was brought to the 2011 game as a visual reminder. After the loss by THS, Bahr presented the ‘sledge’ to then Durant coach Casey Bouska, deeming his team didn’t earn it that night and Durant had. The two schools have played for the ‘sledge’ every since. The Wildcats have not won the ‘sledge’ since the 2011 season with the Tigers having won the last six meetings. Durant has not scored more than 13 points in the last seven meetings between the teams. The Wildcats beat THS 30 to 24 in 2010.

The Wildcats beat THS 18-13 in the 2011 game. Juniors Brett Lilienthal and Tyler each rushed for touchdowns. Tribble also threw a touchdown pass. Cole Cook rushed for 88 yards and a touchdown and passed for 32 yards for THS in the game. Quentin Crock rushed for 68 yards and a score.

The point total scored by Durant was their lowest this season through three games. The Wildcat offense scored 24 points in week one and 22 points in week two.

Offensively, Durant quarterback Keagan Head threw for over 100 yards for the second straight game. He took over the reigns of the offense for 2019 graduate Bryce Lafrenz who threw for over 1,000 yards. Head completed 12-of-22 attempts for 133 yards, a touchdown and two interceptions. On the season he had 390 yards and 5 touchdowns in three games. Nolan DeLong rushed for 44 yards on ten carries. He did not score a touchdown, but averaged 4.4 yards a carry. Jake Willkomm had quite a game. He caught five passes for 135 yards and a touchdown. He averaged 27.0 yards per catch. Defensively, Durant was led in tackles by Marcus Engstler with 18, Lucas Callison with 11 and Brian Graves with 10.

The Wildcats will return home this Friday to play Wapello. It's the first of four home games in the final six weeks. Home district games with Belle Plaine, Highland, and Pekin wait for later this season. Wapello comes in 2-1. Wapello has wins over Louisa-Muscatine out of Tipton’s district and Northeast out of North Cedar’s district. Wapello scored 26 or more points in each of those wins. Wapello’s only loss was to state ranked West Branch.
