MOUNT VERNON — The North Cedar Knight cross- country team opened their 2019 season just down the road on Highway 30 in Mount Vernon. There, the Knights competed with bigger schools from around Eastern Iowa.
On the girls side, the Knights placed 11th out of 13 scoring teams. Dubuque Hempstead the sixth ranked team in Class 4A, won the meet with a team score of 53. North Scott placed second with 84 points and Center Point-Urbana placed third with 104 points. Junior Kiley Chapman nearly nished in the top-20 placing 21st in a time of 22:39. Hunter Jones placed 46th in a time of 24:26.
Other North Cedar nish- ers were 76th Rhyan Hoefler in 27:30, 83th Sarah Redhage in 30:04, 85th Jilliet Spahr in 31:44, 86th Karly Cerda in 32:25, and 88th Fiona Raney in 36:15. placed 13th out of 14 teams. Dubuque Hempstead, the second-ranked team in Class 4A, won the meet with a team score of 32. Marion was second with 88 points and Ames third with 98 points.
North Cedar was led by Samuel Choate with a 71st place n- ish in 21:35. David Redhage, Chance Cinkovich was next placing 75th and 76th at 22:36 and 22:55. Other North Cedar finishes were 79th Milo Easterly in 23:23, 81th Jacob Spahr in 23:31, 90th Marshall Vanoort in 27:53, 94th Leighton Tjaden in 28:17. Ryan Spahr also ran in the race and nished in a time of 30:33.
The Knights run in Iowa City at the Iowa City Kickers Complex Thursday, September 5 and at Tipton on Tuesday, Sep- tember 10.
