IOWA CITY — The Tipton boys cross-country team navigated a stacked eld at the annual Bob Brown Cross-Country Classic last week. The Tigers placed first in the team race ahead of eight ranked teams to capture the meet title. Tipton scored 69 points and had two top-10 runners at the meet.
Ranked teams at the meet were, Class 4A - Western Dubuque 13th, Iowa City Liberty 20th; Class 3A - Clear Creek-Amana 3rd, Marion 5th, Mount Vernon- Lisbon 19th; Class 2A - Tipton 1st, Monticello 2nd; Class 1A - Calamus-Wheatland 12th, Wil- ton 20th.
Tipton junior Caleb Shumaker who is ranked as the No. 1 individual runner in 2A, won the meet in a time of 17:03. Trent Pelzer also placed in the top-10 with a 5th place finish in 17:33. Jackson Edens nearly cracked the top-10 with an 11th place finish in 17:50. Other Tipton finishers were Cody Bohlman 22nd, Andrew Olseen 30th, Landan Hill 47th, A.J. Thumma 49th, Ty Nichols 61st, Troy Butler 66th, and Bob Ryan 69th.
Wilton was led by Zach Hein with a 21st place finish in 18:09 and Buddy Darting with a 37th place finish in 18:44.
Tipton placed 6th in the junior varsity race with 143 points. North Cedar was 9th with 264 points. Tipton had two, top-30 finishers. Dalton Esbaum was 6th in 20:11 and Craig Sha er was 26th in 21:14. Sam Choate led North Cedar with a 61st place finish in 22:20.

Tigers 9th, Beavers 11th At Bob Brown Meet
IOWA CITY — The Tipton girl’s cross-country team began their meet season last week at the Bob Brown Cross-Country Classic in Iowa City. The Tigers placed 9th at the meet out of 11 scoring teams. Wilton placed 11th and North Cedar also had runners there.
Class 4A No. 15 Iowa City Liberty won the meet with a team score of 48. Solon was the runner-up team with 76 points and Western Dubuque was third with 88 points. Monticello was the rst RVC team out of ve scoring RVC teams, to finish with a fourth-place finish with 114 points. The Tigers scored 243 points at the meet. Ashlyn Keeney won the race in 18:50 while teammate Mac Camille was second in 20:20.
The Tigers were led by Alyssa Mente with a 26th place finish. Mente finished in 23:04. Rachel Bierman and Kallie Wallick placed 54th and 65th. Other Tipton finishers were Alli Nash 73rd, Becca Stroup 85th,
Britney Ford 88th, Ashlyn Curry 90th, and Liz Bierman 92nd. North Cedar had run in a meet already this season. The Knights had two runners compete in the varsity race. Junior Kiley Chapman placed 20th in 22:36. Teammate Rhyan Hoe er placed 86th in 27:47.
Wilton placed 11th at the meet scoring 332 points. Two Wil- ton runners finished in the top 80 finishers. Charlotte Brown placed 71st in 25:46 and Emmy Drake placed 74th in 25:56.
In the junior varsity race, North Cedar and Wilton had runners competing. Karly Cerda placed 70th for North Cedar in 31:14 and Michaela Breed placed 78th in 33:23 to lead Wilton. Neither team had enough runners to score in the team race.
