Tigers beat Clinton River Queens to open 2019 swimming season

TIPTON — The Tipton swimming team began the 2019 dual season where they left off a year ago, beating Missis- sippi Athletic Conference foe Clinton on Thursday, August 29 at home. The Tigers were 9-1 in dual meets a year ago and now have won ten of their last eleven duals with a 95-66 victory over the River Queens. The Tigers won ten events at the meet. The Tigers set seven personal bests at the meet. Juniors Maddie Swick and Zoe Stonebraker and sophomore Rhyan Hoe er each had been a part of four event wins at the meet.

Tipton won all three relay events at the meet, the 200- free, 400-free, and 200-yard medley relays. Rhyan Hoe er won two events, the 500-free- style and the 200-freestyle. Sara Webb, Ali Anderson, Britney Ford, Maddie Swick and Zoe Stonebraker each won events.

The Tigers 200-yard Individual Medley relay team of Ali Anderson, Britney Ford, Mad- die Swick, and Zoe Stonebraker won the event in 2:00.93. The Tigers also placed third in the same event with the team of Ali Anderson, Britney Ford, Maddie Swick, and Zoe Stonebraker won the event in 2:00.93. The Tigers also placed third in the same event with the team of Sara Webb, Corrine Vandergaast, Hannah Tucker, and Kayley Clark in 2:36.62.

Tipton won the next four individual events. Rhyan Hoe er won the 200-yard freestyle in 2:07.93, Zoe Stonebraker won the 200-yard IM in 2;37.95, Ali Anderson won the 50- yard freestyle in 27.73, and Maddie Swick won the 100-yard butterfly in 1:03.25. Swick’s time was a PR after having a best time in 2018 of 1:04.23. After Clinton won their rst event, the 100-yard freestyle, the Tigers won the rest of the events at the dual.

Individually, Hoe er won the 500- yard freestyle in 5:42.94, Webb won the 100-yard backstroke in 1:13.80 and Britney Ford won the 100-yard breaststroke in 1:18.25. Ford was undefeated in the breaststroke in duals last season. In between those events, the Tigers picked up two more relay wins in the 200-yard free and 400-yard free relays.

The Tiger 200-yard freestyle relay team of Zoe Stonebraker, Maddie Swick, Ali Anderson, and Rhyan Hoe er won in 1:48.27 besting their PR from last year of 1:49.62. The 400-yard freestyle relay team of Hoe er, Anderson, Stonebraker, and Swick won the event in a time of 4:03.53.

Sophomore’s Corrine Vandergaast had two PR’s at the meet and Hannah Tucker had one. Vandergaast placed fourth in the 100-yard breaststroke in 1:34.20, beating her PR of 1:36.16 and placed fth in the 100-yard freestyle in a 1:14.53, beat- ing her PR of 1:18.54. Tucker placed 5th in the 50-yard freestyle in a time of 36.13, beating her PR of 39.71.

The Tigers hosted Williamsburg on Tuesday, September 2 and will travel to Muscatine on Saturday, Septem- ber 7 for the Muskie Invitational.

It’s early in the season and not all schools have reported times to QuikStats, but several THS events are positioned high in the statewide best times early this year. Several THS events are in the top-24 of each event with four Tipton events in the top-10. Being near the top-24 would put events in a position to get to the state swimming meet, but not be a guarantee.

The highest team in the 400-yard freestyle relay team of Hoefler, Anderson, Stonebraker, and Swick who has the 6th fastest time in the state at 4:03.53. The 200-yard medley relay team of Anderson, Ford, Swick, and Stonebraker have the eighth-best time in the state in the event in 2:00.93. Two Tipton swimmers are in the top-10 individually with Mad- die Swick 10th in the butter y and Rhyan Hoe er 10th in the 200-yard freestyle.
