CLARENCE — In the middle of a 9-match week, the North Cedar Knights began their River Valley Conference schedule last Thursday, September 5 at home. The Knights RVC opener was sandwiched between two tournaments. The Knights won three matches at the Prince of Peace tournament on Tuesday, September 3 and went 1-4 at last Saturday’s Mount Vernon tournament. The Knights are 7-7 overall after last week. North Cedar will host Springville on Thursday night.
The Knights took a 1-0 lead in the match, winning the first set 25-14. Monticello tied the match at 1-1, winning the second set 25-19. The Panthers won the third set to take a 2-1 lead, winning 25-21. The Panthers closed out the match by winning the fourth set 25-20 to take the match 3-1.
North Cedar had a season-high 123 attack attempts. Andrea Wachendorf and Kelly Proesch led in kills with 15 and 10. Sydney Dennis had 36 assists and Kassidie Galloway led three North Cedar players with double-digit dig totals with 27. North Cedar had a season-high 22 blocks with Kayla Paup leading with seven. North Cedar served 77-for-85 as a team with 12 aces. Emma Boelyn was 15-for-16 with two aces, Dennis was 15-for-15 with two aces and Jenna Syring was 14-for-15 with three aces.

Knights Win Three At Prince of Peace Tournament
CLINTON — The North Cedar volleyball team improved to 6-2 last week with three victories at the Prince of Peace volleyball tournament on Tuesday, September 3. There, the Knights beat three former foes that were with them in the Big East Conference in Prince of Peace, Calamus-Wheatland, and Bellevue Marquette. All three wins were 2-0 wins.
North Cedar beat Prince of Peace 2-0 by twin scores of 21-19. The Knights had 19 kills led by Kelly Proesch with five and Emma Boelyn, Jenna Syring, and Andrea Wachendorf each with four. Sydney Dennis had 16 assists and Kssidie Galloway led in digs with six. Boelyn had three blocks and Carly Meier led the Knights in serving, going 11-for-11 with three aces.
North Cedar beat Calamus-Wheatland 2-0 by scores of 21-7 and 21-9, not allowing the Warriors to score in double digits. The Knights had 19 kills led by Jenna Syring and Emma Boelyn with five and four respectively. Sydney Dennis had 14 assists, Kassidie Galloway had eight digs and the Knights had three players lead in blocks - Boelyn, Dennis, and Caitlin Jensen. North Cedar served 32-for-37 with nine ace serves. Dennis led, going 9-for-9.
North Cedar beat Bellevue Marquette 2-0 by scores of 21-12 and 21-11. The Knights had 22 kills led by Kelly Proesch with eight and Emma Boelyn with four. Sydney Dennis had 20 assists and four players led in digs. The Knights had 10 blocks in the match with Boelyn having four and Proesch three. The Knights served 38-for-41 with six aces. Kassidie Galloway was 12-for-12 to lead the Knights.
Knights End Week At Mount Vernon Tournament
MOUNT VERNON — The Knights made the short trip to Mount Vernon last Saturday to play in the Mustang Invitational. There, the Knights played five matches. North Cedar was 1-4 in those matches, getting a win over the much larger school, Ottumwa, 2-0. North Cedar lost to three top-10 ranked teams in Waverly-Shell Rock, Dubuque Wahlert and Dyersville-Beckman. Wahlert is No. 1 in 4A and WSR is No. 7. Beckman is ranked No. 3 in Class 2A. The Knights lost by 2-0 scores to Beckman twice by 2-0 scores, as well as losing by 2-0 scores to both WSR and Wahlert.
In their win against Ottumwa, North Cedar won by scores of 21-11 in the first set and 21-16 in the second set. North Cedar was 41-for-48 on attacks with 24 kills as a team. Emma Boelyn had 6 and Andrea Wachendorf and Jenna Syring each had 5 to lead North Cedar. Sydney Dennis had 20 assists and Kassidie Galloway had 7 digs. The Knights had 5 blocks and served 39-for-41 with nine aces. Dennis led the Knights in serving, going 16-for-16 with 8 aces and Kalya Syring was 9-for-9 with an ace.
