ENGLISH VALLEYS — Two local schools and their cross-country teams ran at the annual English Val- leys cross-country invitational last week. The Durant Wildcats and Wil- ton Beavers were those schools.
On the boy’s side, Durant was the runner-up and Wilton the third-place team out of eight scoring teams. Wa- pello won the meet with 52 points, Durant scored 62 points and Wilton had 81 points. Wilton’s Zach Hein won the race placing rst in 18:19. Durant had three runners in the top- 10 nishers with Drake Shelangoski placing 5th in 20:04, Kayden Johnson placed 6th in 20:09, and Nathan Moomey placed 9th in 20:13. Jake Walton from Wilton nearly placed in the top-10 with an 11th place nish in 21:04.
On the girl’s side, Wilton placed 5th with 114 points and Durant had only two runners competing. The Beavers were led by Charlotte Brown and Abby Brown who placed 16th and 17th. Lindsey Randolph placed 19th, giving the Beavers three top-20 fiishers at the meet.
Carlie Jo Fusco placed 8th for Durant in 24:55. Heidi Wolf placed 29th in 28:45.
Durant boys 7th at Cascade Invite
CASCADE — The Durant cross- country teams ran at the annual Cascade Invitational last Thursday. The Wildcat boy’s placed 7th in a ten-team scoring meet. The Wildcat girls did not have enough runners to score as a team.
Fifth-ranked Class 2A Monticello won the boy’s meet with a team score of 16 points. Class 1A No. 4 Maquoketa Valley was second with 50 points. Benton was third with 118 points. Durant placed 7th with 169 points. Durant was led by Drake Schelangoski with a 23rd place nish in 19:10. Kayden Johnson was 30th in 19:26 and Nathan Moomey was 31st in 19:26. Other Durant nishers were Xander Fleming 35th, Branden Wagner 50th, Colyn Dean 57th, and Michael Frisch 62nd.
On the girl’s side, 2A No. 4 Monti- cello won the meet with 30 points. Benton was second with 68 points and Class 1A No. 4 Iowa City Regina was third with 77 points. Durant did not place in the team race. Carlie Jo Fusco placed 13th to lead Durant in a time of 22:31. Other Durant nishers were Heidi Wolf 44th, and Kaitlyn Paustian 59th.
