Beavers have a hard time slowing Mediapolis

Beavers have a hard time slowing Mediapolis
WILTON — The Wilton Beaver football team had a tough home finale opponent last Friday
when Mediapolis came to town. The two teams had a whale of a game in 2018 with Wilton coming out of top, but this year’s match-up ended up one-sided. There, Mediapolis used a 42-point first half to take a 60-6 week seven district contest.
Wilton fell to 0-3 in Class 1A district 5 and 1-6 overall. The Beavers will end the season with road games at Columbus Junction this week and at Van Buren in week nine. Mediapolis
kept pace with District 5 leader Sigourney-Keota, moving to 3-0 to match the Savage Cobras 3-0 mark. Mediapolis improved to 6-1 overall. If the two teams win their week 8 games, they will play for the district title in week nine as 4-0 unbeaten district teams.
Mediapolis used a potent rushing attack in their game with Wilton. The Beavers gave up 538 yards on the ground and 572 yards of total offense. Klay Foster rushed 21 times for 303 and three touchdowns. Mediapolis scored 20 first-quarter points to take command of the game. An Owen Timmerman 60-yard punt return was their first score. Scoring runs by Foster and Timmerman gave Mediapolis their 20 points. Mediapolis added 22 second-quarter points to lead 42-0 at halftime. Mediapolis scored 18 second-half points despite having a running clock in the second half. Wilton scored their only touchdown in the fourth quarter on a Colby Sawvell 4-yard touchdown run. The scoring run was the first rushing touchdown of the season
for Savell.
Wilton had 134 yards of offense with 76 passing and 58 rushing. Mason Ormsby passed for 76 yards on seven completions. Sawvell caught four passes for 67 yards. Ormsby led Wilton rushers with 30 yards on 12 carries. Jackson Hull rushed nine times for six yards. Defensively, Wilton was led by Buddy Darting and Patrick Barszczewski with nine tackles each.
The Beavers have a shot at ending the year on a high note. Their week eight foe, Columbus Junction is also winless in district play (0-3) and is 1-7 overall.
The Beavers week nine foe, Van Buren, is 1-6 after week seven and 1-2 in district play with their only district win over Columbus Junction.
