COGGON — The Tipton girl’s cross-country team finished their regular season schedule by racing at two meets last week. The Tigers ran at the West Delaware Hawk cross-country invitational last Tuesday and ran at the North Linn Lynx Invitational on Saturday. The Tigers will run at the 2019 River Valley Conference meet Tuesday in Iowa City. As of presstime, the Tigers are still waiting to find out what Class 2A state qualifying meet site they will run at. Possible sites are at Williamsburg, Dike-New Hartford, and North Fayette Valley.
At North Linn, the Tigers ran with six ranked teams among the field of 17 scoring teams. Ranked teams at the meet were Class 3A - No. 6 Solon and No. 14 Mount Pleasant; Class 2A - No. 2 Williamsburg, No. 6 Starmong; Class 1A - No. 5 Iowa City Regina and No. 7 Hudson. The Tigers are ranked No. 20 in Class 2A in the latest Iowa Track and Field Coaches Association’s Class 2A rankings.
Williamsburg won the race with 40 team points and ran away with the team title. Solon was next with 90 points and Mount Pleasant was third with 147 points. The Tigers placed ninth as a team with 218 points. Tipton had one runner in the top-25 finishers.
Alyssa Mente placed 24th to lead THS in a time of 21:15. Two others placed in the top-40 runners with juniors Kallie Wallick placing 34th in 21:44 and Rachel Bierman placing
40th in 21:51. Around 30 seconds separated the Bierman from Mente in the race. Other Tipton finishers were Coryn Wallick 45h in 22:02, Alli Nash 75th in 23:33, Britney Ford 92nd in 25:29, and Ashlyn Curry 95th in 25:58.
Tipton had two runners competing in the junior varsity race. Becca Stroup placed 40th in a time of 26:54 and Liz Bierman placed 44th in a time of 27:25.
Tigers Place 7th At West Delaware Meet
MANCHESTER — The Tipton girl’s cross-country team placed 7th at the West Delaware
cross-country invitational last Tuesday in their second to last regular season meet of the 2019 season. There, the Tigers scored 174 team points and had two top-25 runners in the race. The Tigers ran against four other ranked teams. Ranked teams at the meet were Class 4A - No. 15 Western Dubuque; Class 3A - No. 10 Grinnell, No. 18 Center Point-Urbana, and No. 20 Mount Vernon-Lisbon. The Tigers are ranked No. 20 in Class 2A in the latest Iowa Track and Field Coaches Association’s
Class 2A rankings.
Western Dubuque won the meet with a team score of 62 followed by Grinnell with 84 points and Mount Vernon-Lisbon in third place with 95 points.
Kallie Wallick led Tipton with an 18th place finish in 21:55. Alyssa Mente placed 25th in 22:16 to give THS two top-25 finishers. Rachel Bierman placed 30th in 22:37. Other Tipton finishers were Coryn Wallick 49th in 23:36, Alli Nash 52nd in 23:46, Britney Ford 85th in 25:35, and Becca Stroup 94th in 26:06.
Two Tipton runners competed in the junior varsity race. Ashlyn Curry placed 50th in 25:48 and Liz Bierman placed 81st in 27:25.
