WILLIAMSBURG — The high school swimming season is winding down fast. Less than two weeks remain before state qualifying meets will be held on Saturday, Novem- ber 2. The Tigers made one last road trip before the state qualifying meets, to Williamsburg on Monday, October 14. There, Tipton collected nine season-best times this year. The Tigers as a team scored 275 points to place third out of a ve-team meet. Williamsburg won the meet with 356 points while Vinton-Shellsburg was second with 346 points. Oskaloosa was fourth and Fairfield was fifth.
Tipton had two events claim a pair of season-best times, and also top-10 finishes. In the 200-yard freestyle, junior Kayley Clark was third in a season-best time of 2:26.47 and Corrine Vandergaast was 6th. In the 200-yard individual medley, Britney Ford placed fifth in 2:42.25 and Sara Webb placed sixth in 2:43.25.
Samara Von Thun, Alicia Beranek, and Corrine Vandergaast each set a pair of season best times at the meet. Beranek placed 11th in the 50-yard freestyle in 32.93 and placed 9th in the 100-yard backstroke in 1:24.70. Vandergaast placed 6th in the 200- yard freestyle in 2:37.52 and 9th in the 100-yard breaststroke in 1:33.76. Von Thun placed 14th in the 100- yard freestyle in 1:28.51 and 18th in the 50-yard freestyle in 38.18. Tipton had four first-place event nishes at the meet including two relay top nishes. Ali Anderson won the 100-yard backstroke in a time of 1:10.52 and Maddie Swick won the 100-yard butterfly in a time of 1:03.91. The Tigers won the 400-yard freestyle and 200- yard freestyle relay events.
The Tigers won the 200-yard freestyle relay with the team of Zoe Stonebraker, Ali Ander- son, Maddie Swick, and Rhyan Hoefler in a time of 1:51.18. The same quartet teamed up to win the 400-yard freestyle in a time of 4:07.47.
Tipton was second in the 200- yard IM relay with the team of Anderson, Stonebraker, Swick, and Hoefler in a time of 2:03.49.
